Boondhon se baatein

“Giant gray clouds shrouding the usual blue of the sky, so loaded that they would burst down any moment with a million raindrops” – It is time to witness the monsoons of Bombay and the last one week has seen me scurrying through the rain hit roads of the city, experience the way a routine needs to be tweaked up to fit the monsoon’s requirements. Come whatever may, you need to move on..

Ropes come up within homes to hang those washed clothes. And the clothes are ‘uncomfortably’ dry with a ‘doubt’ of dampness still clinging on, clothes which you wear with the warmth of a hot press, almost become cold and soggy by the time you reach office. The point - pull out the oldest of your clothes and move on unmindful of what the rain does to you!

The shutters come down on buses and you view the rain-hit world outside through the window glass. The innumerable slums, on the way, almost falling prey to the devastation, still stand up and the inmates wouldn’t dare to stop; their lives need to move on.

Rains have an effect on me; they make me go nostalgic. The bus journey till office is filled with moments from the past – the way two years back, I rushed to pick up my vehicle from the dealer, giving a damn to the rain, how I used to look out of the window at my office in Bangalore and regret that the vehicle was getting drenched. How at school, I would long for a day’s holiday when the rarity called rains hit Madras, how a couple of my friends and I ran out to get drenched in the first rains of Pilani and..

Complaints still exist, but brushing them aside, today a small boy, and his gesture made me smile to myself. Two pups were running playfully across the road, and as the bus made its way through, the boy just lifted the two and pushed them into his so called ‘home’. It was wonderful.

Now at office, all I feel like doing is to settle down with a mug of hot chocolate and listen to some great music. But what is blaring now is the TV set next to me; the channel’s life goes on as well!!

This post is dedicated to that wonderful rain that is lashing out outside, settling a layer of moisture on the windows. The rain made me write, (setting aside my work) after a long time!!

The post also goes out to that little boy who enjoyed the rains so much (to my envy) and saved those two sweet pups!

The Perfect Rain Recipe - Get drenched, reach home while it is still raining, let your mom or spouse towel dry you, watch a Maniratnam movie with steaming coffee (dark and bitter!!! I love coffee!!!!) while stroking your German Shepherd!!! :-)

Ah! Rains! That perfect setting for a cuppa steaming tea and some music. Romantic, moody, happy and what not.

I love the rains in Bangalore. They are punctual (always after 7:30pm). They lash out for about an hour and then let you enjoy the freshness they leave behind. (I dont want to talk about the traffic jams they cause :-))

What I love most ofcourse is a drizzle to keep you going on a long ride.

Krish, lots of wishes?? :)..Don't you worry! The rain gods will drench you soon! :)

Agnibharati, I agree till the part on maniratnam, the next two, well not too sure coz I hate coffee and I am scared of dogs..I can love them only as pups, after that they are kinda scary!!

Biju, I know the Bangalore rains..and yeah, the drizzle that you mention..But, I have had my worst times too..Once, I was driving down ring road and I got royally stuck in the rains, drenched from head to toe..What's more, I fell sick!!

HOLA ANU!!! :)

I reject to use umbrellas on rainy days... I just don't think it's fair that if I face sunny days without any worries I should worry in any other way when a rainy day comes my way... it's weird, but that's how I feel and I like it... sometimes when hard summer rains hit Barcelona, my girlfriend and I like to go the city main cathedral (an incredible medieval construction) and just walk around it, getting all soaked under the real "waterfalls" being spitted out of the gargoyles on all sides of the building... I think I'd love experiencing monsoon season in Bombay... I was just reading an article about it this afternoon ...and then I find you've been blogging about it... curious, isn't???
oops, before I forget, I read about the tag BTW... actually, I had already been tagged by The Peanut Queen (see link in my blog, if you wish) a few weeks ago, but then I left for a two weeks vacation... Double tagged as I find myself now, I'll try to answer as soon as possible...
keep enjoying life!
:)

hi anu, visiting ur blog after a long time..for reasons obviously known to u. I am no less a recepient of rains in Mumbai, just like u. Truly tempestuous! those things about bus shutters, etc are truly an experience. We both know, how we dread when we return home, praying throughout the way that it shold not rain heavily. But childhood was a different story. i used to rush to make paper boats as soon as rains began.

But that little incident in the end that u narrated about (little boy and pups), was very enlightening, even though i heard from u before.
